Web designer selection should not be based solely on how the home page looks. The visitor needs to understand the service, find the necessary information and take the next step. When getting a quote for website design, consider the page layout, content, mobile appearance and behaviors to be implemented together.

A manufacturer's technical product catalog and a startup's demo application page do not have to have the same structure. Intended use changes many decisions, from menus to form fields.
Go beyond page count
The phrase “five-page site” does not fully describe the scope of delivery. The product list, product detail, and quote form may contain different behaviors. Specify needs such as search, filtering, language options and content management from the beginning. The availability of ready-made text and images also affects the design calendar.
If the existing site is being revamped, list the content and links to be preserved. Forgetting the old addresses while preparing the new view may make it difficult for the visitor to reach the page they are looking for. Plan forwarding and release responsibilities with the developer.
See mobile design with real content
Long header, multi-column table and large menu on narrow screen require different solutions. If there are only short sample texts in the presentation, the overflow of actual content may be noticed later. Ask the web designer to demonstrate the mobile behavior of important pages.

Write design and publication responsibility separately
The interface file is not the same delivery as the working website. Determine who handles coding, content transfer, hosting, domain name, and maintenance. If design control will be carried out during source file delivery and implementation, it should be included in the offer.
