Construction Logo Design: Separating the Company Brand and the Project Name — Selçuk Aker

In construction logo design, two different brands are often confused: the company that carries out the construction and the name of the project offered for sale. The company carries a long-term identity; The project may create a separate communication need with its location, target recipient and type of use. It is necessary to define this relationship before starting the design.

Write the roles of the parent company and the project brand

The logo of a housing project does not have to represent the entire company. If it is determined where and in what size the company signature will appear, the project identity can be developed more flexibly. When the project name changes, it should not be necessary to change the parent company logo.

For example, the project name may be dominant on the cover of the sales catalogue; The parent company may stand out in a technical or corporate presentation. These two uses are not contradictions, but different information priorities. Making decisions at the brand positioning stage reduces subsequent visual arguments.

Measure job site surfaces initially

The construction site perimeter board, the large surface seen from the crane, and the small sign on the helmet cannot convey the same detail. Logo lines should be tested for distance reading and solid color reproduction. Contact or project information in the visual should also be arranged according to the actual viewing distance.

The design prepared by estimating the panel dimensions may coincide with joints or doors in practice. Getting a measured template from the applicator avoids the need to squeeze the logo in at the last minute.

Do not confuse sales visual with technical information

Architectural visualization is not a photograph of the completed structure. The quality of the visuals used in the presentation and the up-to-dateness of the project information should be kept clear. The designer cannot verify the accuracy of data such as floor plans or delivery promises on his own; Written control must be obtained from the relevant team.

If the same information repeats on different pages in catalog design, it is useful to manage it from a single source file. Applying a revision only to the cover and forgetting about the inner pages can create a bigger problem than visual consistency.

Extend identity to aftermarket

The company presentation, reference project file and website should also describe the completed work. As Selçuk Aker, I propose to handle catalog design and logo applications in the same information order. How the templates prepared for a single project will be adapted to new projects should be explained in the delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Should there be a building drawing in the construction company's logo?

It is not mandatory. If the company does not only produce housing, the building symbol may narrow the scope. A unique visual approach that reflects the business area and future use should be considered.

Should the project logo and the company logo be the same color?

The same color can be used but is not necessary. What is important is that when they appear together, the hierarchy and the relationship of belonging are clear; The rules for this should be shown in the identity file.
