When choosing a logo designer, don't just look at whether the sign is impressive at first glance. The logo needs to work in the small profile image, print and branding applications. A drawing that looks good on a presentation mock-up may lose detail in real use.
As Selçuk Aker, I think about logo design together with the brand identity and the surfaces to be used. The name and target audience decision of a new brand and the technical redrawing of an existing logo are not the same work. Before requesting a quote, explain what problem you are looking for a solution to.
How to give a brief to a designer?
Write down what the brand offers, who it appeals to, and where it will be most visible. Share the finalized name, existing sign and elements that need to be protected. Use the examples you like not only as images to be copied, but as references explaining which feature you like.
For example, fine lines may cause problems on a product with small labels. Remote readability becomes important in the brand used on the sign and vehicle. These usage differences should be part of the initial design evaluation.
Compare alternatives under the same conditions
Examining one logo on a flashy mock-up and another on a blank floor may influence the decision. See the alternatives in the same size, color and surfaces. Ask for single color, reverse use and small size tests. Listen to what decision the designer made and for what use reason.
Logo usage tests guide embodies the evaluation. “How many alternatives are there?” Also ask what needs the alternatives solve differently.
What should happen in the final file submission?
The vector master file, appropriate digital outputs and required layouts should be determined. Color values and font information support consistency in subsequent applications. Discuss separately the terms of use of the source file and third-party assets.
Logo design is not the same as trademark registration review. Conduct necessary legal research with relevant experts. You can review my scope on the logo design service page and share your project.
Frequently asked questions
Can the logo designer just fix the existing logo?
Yes; redrawing, specific revision and new concept should be treated as different scopes. First, the existing file is examined.
Is the PNG file alone sufficient?
It may work for digital use, but a vector master file may also be required for scalable applications. Delivery should be selected according to the area of use.
Should the logo and corporate identity be prepared together?
It depends on the need. If there is use of more than one application and team, it is useful to also define color, typography and usage rules.
