Tourism Logo Design: Separating Hotel, Agency and Experience Branding — Selçuk Aker

Tourism logo design does not describe a single service. The hotel, travel agency, tour operator or experience brand meets different expectations. The design brief should go further than the sentence "we are in the tourism industry"; It should be explained which service the visitor is looking for, in which language and on which channel.

Map reservation path

The visitor may see the brand on a booking platform, social media, or physical signage. Is the name written the same at these contact points? Is the long brand name selected in the small profile image? Does the logo incorrectly evoke the business's type of service?

First list the available channels. Specify the required files and different language descriptions for each channel. Since the visual dimensions of the platforms may change, current conditions should be checked before delivery.

Evaluate symbol by scope of service

The sun and wave sign might suit a coastal hotel; but it may narrow the scope of a business that organizes cultural tours throughout the year. Before the symbol looks good, ask what experience the brand is describing.

As Selçuk Aker, a Graphic Design graduate of Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, I recommend that brand positioning and visual identity be considered together. The description of the design should not turn into a promise of an experience that is not actually delivered.

Separate multilingual usage from logo

The service description can be translated into different languages while the brand name remains the same. Organizing the translation text in a separate area instead of embedding it within the logo makes adaptation easier. Expert support should be sought when necessary for long translations, different characters and languages written from right to left.

Instead of expecting the same word count in both languages, try it with real content. Once language versions are confirmed, the main file, alternate version, and use cases should be clearly named.

Add applications within the space

Key card, directions and printed information for the hotel; For the tour brand, the program file, participant card and digital announcement may be priority. Corporate identity work should be priced according to this actual usage list. Do not assume that the same package name is suitable for all tourism businesses.

Frequently asked questions

Is it necessary to use an English name in the tourism logo?

No. Target market, brand name and current recognition are evaluated together. Requiring a description in a foreign language does not necessarily mean that the brand name must change.

Should the hotel logo and the restaurant logo be the same?

Different brand roles can exist even within the same business. A visual relationship should be established by determining whether a sub-brand based on a common identity or an independent experience will be offered.
