Design for Digital PR: Preparing Shareable Images and Press File — Selçuk Aker

Design for digital PR helps deliver a brand news accurately and consistently across different publications. Press image, logo file, product photo and brief information note can be prepared together. The goal is not to seek visibility alone, but to present clear and verified material that the publisher can use.

Separate the news from the advertising slogan

Explain concretely what has changed about a new product or research. Use verifiable information instead of unsubstantiated statements such as “industry leader.” The graphic designer can edit the presentation; The authenticity of the news, product claim and source of the data must be confirmed by the brand.

For example, in product series promotion, instead of just a decorative cover, the series name, product differences and appropriate photographs can be delivered together. If the text in the image will change later, the editable main file and the final version to be exported should be kept separate.

Prepare files that do not create unnecessary work for the publisher

  • Approved logo options that can be used on light and dark backgrounds.
  • Images appropriate to the subject and with sufficient resolution.
  • Visual descriptions and necessary source information.
  • Brief brand promotion and communications officer.
  • Permanent web page with up-to-date information.

Have files have meaningful names. Instead of a single giant archive, prepare folders organized according to the purpose of use. Permission and limits for use of the material to be shared should be clarified with the relevant rights holders. Re-dressing another brand's successful campaign is not producing original press material.

Don't confuse being shareable with being viral

An infographic or illustrative visual can be shared because it is useful. It is not possible to guarantee that this will spread very widely. Rather than basing a design decision on a surprising image alone, consider what the reader is learning and the context in which the information will be used.

A link from another site alone does not guarantee commercial results. Being mentioned in a relevant publication with the right context is different from mass distributing links to unrelated pages. Do not confuse press work, paid advertising and graphic production offers.

Clarify the scope with a freelance graphic designer

With Selçuk Aker, corporate identity, campaign visuals and infographic design can be planned around the same narrative. Media relations, broadcast buying and press distribution are not included in the design delivery unless separately agreed.

Frequently asked questions

Does preparing a press file guarantee the publication of the news?

No. The decision to publish belongs to the relevant publisher. The dossier ensures that the correct material is presented in an understandable manner.

Are digital PR and social media design the same?

There may be intersecting images; but the goal, distribution and responsibilities are different. Define deliverables separately.

Can a viral design be ordered?

A remarkable and shareable work can be planned. There is no guarantee how many people will share or the size of the spread.
