Logo Design Pricing: Compare Scope Before Comparing Fees

About 3 minutes to read
Logo design pricing is meaningful only when you know what the fee includes. Two proposals may use the same label while covering different research, design directions, revision rounds and production files. Compare the work before comparing the total.
I am Selçuk Aker, an Istanbul-based freelance graphic designer and a graduate of Marmara University's Faculty of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. For a logo project, I recommend starting with the business context and actual uses of the mark rather than choosing a package by the number of file extensions.
Define the problem before requesting a quote
Explain whether you are launching a new business, replacing an existing identity or introducing a product line. Share the approved name, audience, competitors and applications. A mark used on a small woven label creates different production questions from a brand used mainly on a website.
If naming, positioning or a broader identity system is still unresolved, identify those tasks separately. They should not disappear inside an unclear logo fee.
Compare the same deliverables
- Discovery: what information will be reviewed and who provides it?
- Design development: how many initial directions will be presented?
- Feedback: who consolidates comments and what counts as a revision?
- Delivery: which layouts, colour versions and production files are included?
- Handover: will a short usage guide or implementation support be supplied?
A smaller, well-defined scope can be more useful than a long list of mockups. Presentation images help explain a design, but they are not substitutes for usable master files.
Separate design from third-party costs
Font licences, stock assets, printing and sign fabrication may involve separate suppliers. Establish who purchases these items and which usage rights are required. Do not assume that receiving an editable file also transfers every third-party licence.
For international projects, agree the currency, invoice terms, payment milestones and communication schedule in writing. Tax treatment depends on the actual transaction; the proposal should state the applicable terms rather than leave them implied.
Review the design in its real context
Test the selected mark at small sizes, in one colour and on representative backgrounds. Where manufacturing is involved, agree who obtains samples and approves production. A visual mockup cannot confirm how every material will behave.

Frequently asked questions
Is there one standard price for a professional logo?
No single figure explains every scope. Ask for a written breakdown of the design work, review process and handover, then compare proposals on those terms.
Does logo design include a complete corporate identity?
Only when the proposal explicitly includes it. Templates, stationery, packaging and a wider brand guide are additional applications that need their own scope.
